Media Invite: Legoland's Brick-Tacular Holidays

Embark on a Brick-Tacular journey with Legoland this Christmas season!

Throughout December, guests can experience the specially set-up 'snow' village with machine providing the special snow effects four times a day, a Christmas market and interactive Christmas shows.

There's also a host of exciting prizes to be won through the advent calendar activity.  The calendar features 31 windows, one for each day of the month.  It presents one lucky guest the chance to open a window at 7pm to win an attractive prize.  The prizes include a set of flight tickets for a family of four to Chiang Mai, hotel stay packages, Canon camera and so much more.

We enjoyed the Christmas atmosphere at Legoland especially when night fell and the resort twinkled with lights! Besides the Christmas activities, we were also invited to witness the launch of the upgraded KL cluster in Miniland.

Here's a list of Christmas activities you can enjoy at Brick-Tacular Holidays from 1 - 31 December:

Media Invite: SG50 Roadshow

I was invited to the media launch of the SG50 celebrations last Saturday.  What is SG50?  Simply put, it is a celebration of Singapore, a celebration of what it means to be Singaporean, in anticipation of our 50th birthday in 2015.

On National Day this year, we jostled with the crowds at One Fullerton, waiting expectantly for the fireworks display.  What I didn't expect was the sense of pride that filled my heart during the aerial flypast bearing the Singapore flag.  I became keenly aware of the fact that despite my gripes about certain aspects of life in Singapore, I am proud to be Singaporean and am grateful and blessed that I can call this nation my home.

With this sense of awakened pride, I felt that it was meaningful to be part of the SG50 celebrations and went to the roadshow to find out more.

The booths at the roadshow revolve around 3 themes:

1) Celebrate Our Heritage
2) Celebrate Our Community
3) Celebrate Our Dreams

Celebrate Our Heritage

For SG50, the focus on Chingay will be on Singaporeans showing love for Singaporeans.  You can express your love for Singapore by making flowers out of recycled plastic bags in the ''We Love SG Flowers Booth''.  The flowers will be used on the costumes of the performers and for the collage as seen in the photo below.

Celebrate Our Community

The Care and Share@SG50 is a national fund-raising and volunteerism movement led by Community Chest.   As part of the SG50 celebrations, every donation you make till 31 Dec will be matched a dollar to a dollar by the Government.

Celebrate Our Dreams

The SEA Games will again return to our sunny shores in 2015 after a 22-year long hiatus and will be held from 5-16 June 2015.  The theme "Celebrate the Extraordinary" is about connecting individuals, communities and countries to their dreams.

Take a photo with Nila, our SEA Games mascot

Can't get enough of Nila
E was surprisingly interested in colouring the mascot.  This was because he got to write encouraging messages to the athletes representing Singapore.

Share your wish for Singapore's 50th birthday at the Wish House.  The Wish House will be travelling around Singapore to collect wishes leading up to the grand opening of the National Gallery Singapore in November 2015.

The next road show is held from 27th to 28th September, 12pm to 6pm at Northpoint Shopping Centre (Basement 1).  Do pop by for a visit if you are in the vicinity.

Barney's World of Imagination

It's like a rite of passage for almost every kid. That love affair with Barney, the purple dinosaur. No offense to Barney, but I am more of a Yo Gabba Gabba! fan. But the grandparents bought a whole stash of Barney DVDs for E when he was a toddler and he was hooked on it for the next couple of years. He eventually outgrew the "I adore Barney" phase and C inherited that treasured collection.

C's love affair with Barney is even more intense. She once made a request to bring her huge Barney soft toy with her during trips to the toilet. That request was of course flatly denied lest the purple dinosaur becomes the pungent dinosaur in case of any mishap.

So a trip to the mall for the "Barney's World of Imagination" show was inevitable. She was very excited to be seeing her favourite characters singing and dancing in the "flesh" for the first time. When the show was over, she kept saying that she was so sad that she can't see Barney anymore and that she loves Barney (she's in that phase where she expresses herself with dramatic flair). Her mood changed the instant we told her that we were going to have a photo taken with her beloved Barney.

A photo was not enough for her. She was only satisfied after being able to personally give Barney a high five. Back home, she's singing Barney tunes to herself while she plays with her toys. Definitely a memorable evening for her.
